Dartmouth Faculty Open Access Policy Resolution
Share your work on Dartmouth's institutional repository and amplify the impact of your research.
This policy enables scholarly journal articles to be made open access in the long term through Dartmouth's institutional repository, through grant of a license on the part of the faculty to Dartmouth prior to publishing their work. Authors retain copyright to their work, so can grant this prior license to the institution before signing the copyright or license transfer to the publisher.
It does not require faculty to publish in open access journals. Faculty can send their work to whatever journals they choose.
The faculties of Arts and Sciences, Thayer School of Engineering, and the Geisel School of Medicine have voted to make their scholarship available to anyone in the world through the Dartmouth Faculty Open Access Policy. The policy was approved by the Thayer School of Engineering in March 2013, the Faculty of Arts & Sciences in April 2015, and the Faculty of the Geisel School of Medicine in October 2015.
