History of Sherman Art Library

Founded in 1929 when Carpenter Hall was built, the first art library was house in the current reference room and shared the Carpenter Hall with the Art & Archaeology departments, the art gallery and the book arts workshop. In 1970 the art library expanded to three floors and was named in honor of Jacob S. Sherman by his sons William Sherman ’39 & Robert Sherman ’42.
