Who We Are
The mission of Collection Management & Preservation Department is to manage and care for Dartmouth Libraries’ collections with competency and integrity. Working across various units and physical locations, we ensure the long-term preservation of and accessibility to the Libraries’ circulating, special, and digital collections, as well as the College’s vast holdings of institutional paper records. Through meticulous stewardship and specialized expertise, our staff commits to accuracy in maintaining the Libraries’ diverse collections. Our collaborative approach to teamwork paired with our dedication to collections care and maintenance enables us to support academic excellence, research needs, and cross-campus operations effectively.

What We Do
Through meticulous stewardship and specialized expertise, CMP staff commit to the health and sustainability of Dartmouth Libraries' diverse collections, across all formats. Our collaborative approach to teamwork paired with our dedication to collections care and maintenance enables us to support academic excellence, research needs, and cross-campus operations effectively. We can assist with scanning requests, particularly for material stored at the LCSF.
We're responsible for:
- specialized, targeted conservation treatments (supporting special collections, digitization projects, and general collections)
- processing new books
- stacks maintenance & collection rightsizing
- high-density storage operations
- records management workflows (excluding e-records)
- environmental monitoring
- care and handling
- disaster preparedness and response
- digital preservation policy & repository support
