Who We Are
The Collection Management & Preservation Department is composed of collections experts who manage and care for Dartmouth Libraries’ resources. Working across various units and physical locations, the Collection Management & Preservation team supports the long-term preservation of and accessibility to the Libraries’ circulating, special, and digital collections, as well as Dartmouth's vast holdings of institutional paper records.

What We Do
Through meticulous stewardship and specialized expertise, Collection Management & Preservation staff are committed to the health and sustainability of Dartmouth Libraries' diverse collections, across all formats. Our collaborative approach to teamwork paired with our dedication to collections care and maintenance enables us to support academic excellence, research needs, and cross-campus operations effectively.
We're responsible for:
- conservation treatments (supporting special collections, digitization projects, and general collections)
- processing new books
- stacks maintenance and collection rightsizing
- high-density storage operations
- records management workflows (excluding electronic records)
- environmental monitoring
- care and handling training
- disaster preparedness and response
- digital preservation policy and repository support
- resource scanning at the Library Collections Services Facility (LCSF)
