From an aerial view of Hanover, New Hampshire from Baker Tower to viewing an epic mural listed as a national landmark, Baker-Berry Library offers unique experiences.
Tower Tours
For a bird's-eye view of Dartmouth, Hanover, and beyond, join a tour to climb the Baker Bell Tower! During special events, such as Homecoming Weekend, Winter Carnival, and Commencement, we invite the Dartmouth community to tour the iconic Baker-Berry Library Bell Tower.
How It Works
We welcome groups of up to seven for 20-minute tower tours. Sign up at the entrance to the Baker stacks by the red brick area on the First Floor of Berry, starting a half hour before the tour. Spots fill quickly, so plan to arrive early! Each person must be present to reserve a slot.
Note: reaching the tower involves climbing several flights of stairs, including a challenging "ladder-like" ascent.
About the Bells
Experience the unique charm of the Baker-Berry bells, a 15-bell set custom-built in 1928, playing a variety of tunes from birthdays to classics throughout the day. You can even request songs via blitz—though not every request can be guaranteed. Unlike many institutions, Dartmouth proudly uses real bells, ensuring a genuine auditory experience you won’t want to miss!
Green Lights & Special Events
Look out for the green LED lights shining from the Baker Tower during special occasions, known as the "money light." These illuminate significant events like Commencement or Winter Carnival, creating a festive atmosphere for the Dartmouth community.
