Your Dartmouth ID is Your “Library Card”

Use it to borrow physical items from our libraries at any of our circulation information desks. If by chance we don't have the research material you need, we can source it on your behalf from our partners through BorrowDirect. With BorrowDirect you can search the physical collections of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale. Think of all the vast resources now available at your fingertips!

Textbooks & Course Readings

Before you buy or pirate a textbook, use Library Search to find out what we have a copy to borrow in our collections. Other options include,

  • Course reserves: Use Library Search to find a course reserve. Not sure of the exact title? Type in your course subject code and number (e.g., MATH 38, ANTH 009, etc.) to start.
  • STEM textbook exchange: Located at Feldberg Library, grab a gently-used STEM book donated by fellow students. Browse what’s available, then head to Feldberg. Have a STEM textbook to donate? Pay it forward by leaving it with the team at Feldberg Library.
  • Unlimited use ebooks: Before buying books for your course, check if the Libraries what you need in this format! Reach out to a librarian if you need help.

  • Baker-Berry Library 24/7 spaces include:

Being a Dartmouth student grants you an all-access pass to content normally blocked by paywalls. 
Get the following FREE.

  • News platforms, such as the New York Times, the Valley News, Boston Globe, or Wall Street Journal
  • Databases with articles via paid publishers, including Sage, Emerald, or PubMed
  • Movies and documentaries, from cult classics to blockbusters
  • Citation products like Zotero 

Your Own Librarian

For every subject taught at Dartmouth, there’s a librarian dedicated to it! They will tailor and personalize information-seeking techniques and resources to match your particular needs. From planning an honor’s thesis to helping refine your data analysis for a capstone project, you can ask them anything! Search by subject to begin the process.

Creative Experimentation

Book Arts Workshop is the go-to space in Baker Library for getting hands on with printmaking, type setting, zine, and book-making. We welcome all abilities and skill levels, and your Workshop sessions include full use of equipment and materials. Browse and book yourself into classes and events. Take a studio tour or stop by during our open-studio hours.

Workshops 

Elevate and advance your research and studies. Join one of hundreds of research workshops across the year hosted by librarians to do such things as,

  • Make your research reproducible
  • Create excellent bibliographies
  • Conduct a systematic review
  • Learn coding and other data-centric skills
  • Navigate the Libraries’ vast databases like a pro
  • Become an expert of Zotero, a free citation tool

Events

The Libraries partners with faculty, staff, and students to bring events to life for the Dartmouth community. Throughout the year, you’ll find exhibition presentations, author talks, panel discussions, competitions, and more on our calendar. These events amplify Dartmouth-specific achievements while also contributing to Dartmouth’s scholarship.

Podcast and Video Recording Studios

Start (or continue) your digital storytelling journey in the Jones Media Center (JMC) on the second floor of Berry Library. Whether you’re looking to communicate your scientific research in a more relatable way or have a course assignment that requires these tools, we have your back! At JMC, discover bookable podcast and video recording studios with the highest quality equipment. 

Entrepreneurial Hub & Career Assistance

Feldberg Business & Engineering Library supports Tuck and Thayer, but also entrepreneurial ideas and career assistance for all of Dartmouth. Pop in and have a chat with the team. You’ll find them just off the Irving Center in Dartmouth’s West End.
