Opening Hours Update
Beginning Fall Term 2024, Baker-Berry Library has new hours:
Sunday through Thursday, open until midnight
Friday and Saturday, open until 10pm
We have been in conversation with several students following this change, and are actively exploring alternative options and improvements to our 24/7 spaces.
Why have the hours changed?
For several years, the Libraries have experienced staffing challenges to cover the 2am late night shift. To keep Baker-Berry Library open, regular staff worked extra shifts. This became unsustainable, prompting the Libraries to learn more about occupancy and borrowing during the late night hours.
The data collected during the 23/24 Fall and Winter Terms showed that usage declined dramatically after midnight and earlier on Fridays and Saturdays. During Spring Term, Library Leadership presented the challenges and data analysis to the Council on the Libraries for discussion and recommendation. With no long-term solution for the staffing challenges on the horizon, we implemented the recommendation to adjust the late-night staffed hours.
