Sorrow and Bliss is the perfect novel––it is funny, tender, and so smart about love. It came into my life at a time when I desperately needed to hear funny, tender, smart things about love. I also am, as a literary academic (does the thesis mean I get to claim that title, ha!) and a writer, invested in contemporary women's fiction and the project of constructing a contemporary girlhood and womanhood that is expansive and empathetic. This novel does so much more than my wildest dreams for a new cannon. It was a joy to read. Maybe someone else will love it too.
