Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Anna Karenina was the first novel I remember reading for pleasure, and I loved it from start to finish. No character was purely "good" or "bad," and I could understand why characters made the choices they did, whether they acted morally or not. Since reading Anna Karenina for the first time, I have encountered many books within and outside of the classroom that brought me the same curiosity and satisfaction -- but I always come back to Anna. I hope that my peers and I have the time and space to fill our heads with satisfying characters like her this summer.
