This beautiful book immerses its readers into the world of the musical heritage of Central Asia through comprehensive discussion of the music examples, poetic texts, and song lyrics, which are all available on its companion website (musicofcentralasia.org). The website also includes listening guides and study questions, and transliterations and translations of the performed texts. Even as someone from Kazakhstan, I have been learning a lot from this book; I have discovered unique similarities and differences in the musical traditions between my culture and other Central Asian cultures. This book would be a valuable resource for both specialists and general readers willing to broaden their viewpoint and gain a finer understanding of world music.
