I read this book for an anthropology course titled Environment, Culture, and Sustainability. This collection of essays completely changed my perspective on one of the world’s most pressing issues: anthropogenic climate change and environmental degradation. This book is separated into two parts: Ghosts (the species and landscapes we have lost) and Monsters (the things we are creating). It’s a mind-bending, deeply disturbing story of the ways humans have affected the earth. But most importantly, its message is one of hope— of fully living in the world we have created while fostering more care for the future.
