I first read I'll Give You the Sun when I was in my sophomore year of high school. In my very conservative town in West Texas, this was one of the first few pieces of media that told me it was alright to be gay, and that I shouldn't have to hide who I am. After reading this book, I was convinced to come out to my family and some of my friends. Because of this, I point to I'll Give You the Sun as a major reason why I was able to survive high school.
