I remember reading the different poems in Falling Up as a 9-year-old, admiring the humor and drawings in the book. I felt so excited when my third-grade teacher, Ms. Strzepek, gave me this book as a gift — it has been a gift that I’ve cherished ever since. This book symbolizes the values, people, and memories I’ve made at my elementary school, Hanson Park. Although I didn’t grow up in the best neighborhood, I had wonderful teachers and staff as part of my community; and I can easily say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Mr. Hollatz was one of many teachers who inspired me to be the best student I could be and achieve what I once thought wasn’t attainable. Falling Up, a collection of silly poems, is an excellent reminder that although things might be looking rough, you will meet people and create memories that make life better.

I am majoring in Economics Modified with Public Policy. After graduation, I will be working as a Business Program Manager at Microsoft. Although I enjoy learning about the business world, my passion lies in Education Policy. In the long run, I hope to work towards seeing a reduction in the achievement and wealth gaps in society, whether by working through non-profits, getting involved in education research, or developing a local advocacy group. I would like to ensure that disadvantaged communities like those seen in Chicago are represented and empowered.

I have been working at the Dartmouth Library since Freshman Winter at all different desks. I initially just wanted to work there to receive an income, but the great community that I’ve received from all the staff and other student workers has incentivized me to remain working at the Library. I also really enjoy helping students, professors, and locals find the books they need. I’d like to give our supervisors, Loey Crooks and Anna Grallert, huge credit for creating a safe space for me at the library, even through a pandemic. From making individualized appreciation cards for all of the employees to advocating for all of the Access Services staff, they have continuously done a lot to make us all feel welcomed, appreciated, and motivated. Working at the library has been a formative part of my Dartmouth experience.

Although we are still living in a pandemic, I have still made memories (safely) with people I care about. From eating outside on the Green with friends to attending a virtual community dinner with FYSEP, I know that I will be enjoying every part of my last term here at Dartmouth.
