BIOGRAPHY

Josiah Buckingham was born on August 12, 1718, in Milford, New Haven, Colony of Connecticut. His parents were Gideon Buckingham (1675-1719) and Sarah (Platt) Hunt (1682-unknown). Buckingham served as a Captain in the French and Indian war. He married Ann Brinsmead (1722-1806), sister to Mary Brinsmead Wheelock, Eleazar Wheelock’s second wife. In 1767, a letter from Noah Baldwin to Eleazar Wheelock referred to Nando and Hagar, two persons who appear to be enslaved by Buckingham and in whom Wheelock had either joint ownership or a financial interest. Buckingham died on October 19, 1784 in Milford, New Haven, Connecticut.
