Jabez Bingham

Jabez Bingham was born to Jabez Bingham (1701–1785), and Bethiah Wood (1702–1769) in New London, Colony of Connecticut, on April 12, 1724. He married Mary Wheelock (1728–1809), half sister to Eleazar Wheelock, on December 24, 1746. Bingham served briefly in the French and Indian War and appears to have managed the 300 acre farm in Windham that Eleazar Wheelock inherited from his father, Ralph Wheelock. Later, he served as an agent for Wheelock in Connecticut managing Wheelock’s properties and business affairs after Wheelock moved to the Province of New Hampshire in 1769. He died in 1785, in Windham, Connecticut. Bingham is the father of Jabez Bingham, Jr. (1749-1804).
