Visit the exhibit curated by Lilly Linden and Laura Graveline in the Baker 2 West lobby in fall 2025. The exhibit includes field journals created at the Book Arts Workshop in the Dartmouth libraries and materials used as a part of an Art of Field Journaling session.
The Art of Field Journaling: Exhibit
Dartmouth Art and STEM librarians (Laura Graveline and Lilly Linden) were interested in sharing with our community the Art of Field Journaling. In a session organized on Sep 23rd 2025, they explored rare books on color theory, natural history illustrations, Materia Medica, architectural sketches, etc. along with Dartmouth researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates. The participants also looked at some facsimiles of ancient manuscripts. At the end of the session, the attendees were able to pick from provided supplies to set up with a field journaling kit so that they could develop their own field journaling practice. The curators hope that the Dartmouth community is inspired to step outdoors and record what they observe.
