Dr. Mashrekur Rahman is an AI Research Data Science Specialist at Dartmouth Libraries, where he leads cross-disciplinary AI research collaborations and conducts original AI research. His expertise spans foundation models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, large language models, computer vision, and geospatial AI. He provides support for the institutional AI platforms and engages in broader campus AI strategy discussions.
Mashrekur partners with Dartmouth faculty, students, and staff across STEM and humanities to design and implement AI solutions for research problems — from building intelligent retrieval systems and agentic workflows to applying deep learning for domain-specific prediction and analysis. He also develops and delivers progressive AI literacy programming across departments, from fundamentals through advanced applications.
Before joining Dartmouth, Mashrekur was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the USDA Agricultural Research Service, where he developed deep learning models for environmental prediction at continental scale. He holds a PhD in Hydrologic Sciences from UC Davis, where his research applied AI to hydrological forecasting, drought prediction, and scientific literature analysis, funded by NASA, NOAA, USDA, and Google. He has contributed to global environmental policy and science communication across three continents.
